A community based prospective study on thyroid dysfunction among pregnant females and its effect on maternal and neonatal outcome

Background: Thyroid disorders are often overlooked in pregnancy because of their non-specific symptoms and the hypermetabolic state pregnancy. The laboratory measurements thyroid function play an important role assessment maternal health. can have grievous effect on mother new-borne which be prevented. study was aimed to find prevalence dysfunction among pregnant females its neonatal outcome.Methods: A prospective conducted from August 2019 October 2020 360 rural fields practice area a medical college. test done all outcome noted.Results: 20.31% were found suffering is approximately 1/5th total sample. Out with maximum suffered subclinical hypothyroidism that 10.94% while 1.56% had overt hypothyroidism. 1.88% 5.94% hyperthyroidism respectively. Postpartum haemorrhage, pre term delivery, abortion deaths more common as compared euthyroid although not statistically significant.Conclusions: Though significantly adverse dysfunction, very high warrants detection during antenatal care uniformly included peripheral health centres.
